WWA Staff

The WWA staff is a dedicated group of advocates for our winter wildlands with a wealth of credentials and experience regarding public lands and the environment. Their passion for WWA is fueled by their love of our winter wildlands, which they visit and enjoy.

Get to know the WWA team

Mark Menlove, Executive Director
Mark Menlove is a seasoned backcountry ski guide and outdoor writer. As the former president of the Utah Ski Association and its marketing company, Ski Utah, he led successful legislative, fundraising, promotional and membership campaigns. He also worked in communications positions with Park City Mountain Resort and the U.S. Ski Team and has served on numerous industry boards. He holds an MFA degree in Creative Writing and a BA degree in Mass Communications.

Steve Ryder, Grassroots Program Director
Most recently with The Nature Conservancy in Helena, Montana, Steve has spent the last ten years doing land protection work in Montana and Colorado. Prior to that he worked over a period of 16 years as an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) where he led courses in mountaineering, backcountry skiing, rock climbing, canyon hiking and nature photography. He brings terrific education credentials including a PhD in Political Science/Environmental Politics and Policy from Colorado State University.

Marti Stephen, Development Director
Marti Stephen is an avid endurance athlete who grew up in Western Colorado with the belief that winters would always be quiet and full of adventure. She combines an extensive background in cycling journalism at VeloNews with experience in grants writing, public relations, and fundraising. She has organized sports clinics and events in Colorado, California, and Idaho. In addition to an M.A. in Public Communications from the University of Denver, she holds an M.F.A. in poetry from the University of San Francisco.

Lana Weber, Program Administrator
Lana Weber brings a range of experience to Winter Wildlands Alliance, and has worked with various non-profits in overseeing organization, development, event coordination and promotional design. She is an avid skier and outdoor enthusiast and carries a commitment to our natural resources, conservation and the communities that surround them.
